Poetry Corner Friday: Booze

Add this page to SheToldMe.com

I desire booze now.
I desire that dead feeling
when everything has slowed down
like a warped vinyl record
and the saxophone somewhere
in the background
sounds like the soundtrack
to a film noir
one i’ve never seen before
and won’t pay much attention to
anyway
when my brain is too poisoned
by spirits and ungodly substances
to bother with those small and quick things
chasing rabbits from here to there
from one thing that i hate
to another thing that i hate
because i know that this
slow and inefficient murder
is nonetheless effective
and if i can murder my brain
and murder my mind
and murder my nerves
it stands to reason that i will not
live to see tomorrow
which is just fine with me
if i can go out
with a glass
of tequila

    raw and real honesty spoken.
    a tough life.
I (the reader) don't know what's eating the speaker…don't need to know – the pain is there.
leaves me hoping for the speaker.
